Principal's Update - 11

Enriching our students lives through learning

Connolly Primary School Principal

From our Principal

Dear Parents

Term 4 is literally flying past and I hope you all survived Trick or Treating.

Staffing and class structures 2023:

As always this is an extremely busy and stressful time of year with regards to staffing. At this stage I am unable to confirm staffing arrangements as I am not sure of student numbers for 2023.  Funding is provided by the DoE and is based on student numbers.  We do not qualify for extra funding as we are not in a low socio-economic area nor do we have large numbers of Aboriginal or English as an additional language students.  I hope to be in a position to provide further information in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, if you have any specific requests such as placing your child with a friend or not in the same class as another student please email me by Friday 18th November 2022 at david.womersley@education.wa.edu.au

I will not guarantee placing your child with a specific teacher and I am not taking requests regarding straight or composite (mixed age) classes.

Assembly:

Last Friday we were treated to one of the best class assemblies I have seen in many years. Tuart 2 delivered the message that children need exercise and good nutritional food to lead a healthy lifestyle. The performance centred on a young boy obsessed by gaming who never played outside or did any exercise.  His diet consisted mainly of fast food takeaways and he even took an Uber to school! Fortunately, his friends and Google managed to convince him to change his lifestyle to a more healthy one. All the students spoke, acted and danced superbly. Their costumes were amazing and the audience were totally engaged. Well done T2, Mr.K and Mrs Price an outstanding effort.

World Teachers Day:

Australia celebrated and thanked the teaching profession on World Teachers’ Day on Friday 28 October 2022.  Teachers (with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It’s reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children and students, their families, and communities. We are very fortunate at Connolly to have such an amazing and dedicated staff. Thank you all.

Kiss and Drive Shelter:

This has now been completed and will make pick up in rainy or extremely hot conditions much easier. A huge thank you to our wonderful P&C who have donated the bulk of the money.

Wheelchair Basketball:

Last week the Year 5s and 6s were exposed to wheel chair basketball. It was a great success and we have uploaded a short (54 sec) video onto our Facebook page.

Triathalon:

Students in Years 4, 5 and 6 are currently doing triathlon training. Despite the odd puncture and spill they are really enjoying the experience.

Dance Lessons:

Year 5 and 6 have started dance lessons. Feedback has been extremely positive and the Year 6 program will finish on Graduation evening at the Joondalup Reception Centre.

Kind Regards

David
